Super Easy Sloppy Joes

I've never had Manwhich, so I don't know what it tastes like. BUT, I can guarantee you that this recipe tastes better and it's sooo easy. (I think I've mentioned before that I don't "do" recipes that aren't easy.)

Ingredients:
1 onion (or onion powder if you're lazy like I)
2 tablespoons shortening (don't need it if you have powder!)
1 lb. ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons chili sauce or ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 15 oz. can tomato sauce

I bet you have most, if not all, of those ingredients in your pantry already.

If you wanna go the tried and true route, saute your onion in your shortening, add your (drained) browned beef and other ingredients. Simmer 15 minutes.

Lazy route? Just pour a "good bit" of onion powder on the beef while it's frying. Drain beef. Add other ingredients. Simmer 15 minutes. Eat 'til you're stuffed!

Yep. We're having these tonight!

I can't believe you've never had Manwich. That's the way my mom always used to make them. I just use the sauce b/c it's easier and I'm all about easy. I cook out of necessity because it gets so expensive to eat out!

Oh my goodness! You are a lifesaver!!! David and I have not been able to have sloppy joes since we got married. I grew up on Manwich, and he grew up on his mom's recipe (which does not taste anything like Manwich)! We tried it tonight, and we both liked it well enough that we felt we could compromise on this recipe!!!! It does taste similar to Manwich....just so you know since you have never had it! I also like the fact that all of the ingredients are basic ingredients I have in my kitchen. I don't like to use a lot of prepackaged stuff so this fit the bill! Instead of using shortening I cooked the onions in the fat from the beef...southern style! :-) Oh and by the way....Jessica LOVED it!....and I have been having trouble getting her to eat sandwiches lately!
