Unto Him

"In the ultimate sense, your marriage has nothing to do with your spouse. It has EVERYTHING to do with your relationship to Jesus Christ. You practice love or respect towards your spouse because, beyond your spouse, you picture (with the eyes of faith), Jesus Christ standing there."

This statement has been made several times in our marriage class on Wednesday nights, and it has profoundly affected me. When my husband requires extra patience, love, or support from me, even when I don't want to give it...I should because I'm not doing it towards him. I'm doing it towards the Lord.

Such a simple, yet profound thought that has caused me to bite my tongue or take a deep breath and step back more than once. Think on it...
